BTS Send Fans into a Frenzy while Performing in L.A.

INTERNATIONAL: Many musicians have fans. But only BTS has an ARMY. The K-pop group's legion of devoted followers has turned out in droves Sunday night to the Sofi Stadium for the second show of the group's four-night Permission to Dance on Stage - LA concert — their first in-person show since the coronavirus pandemic has derailed their tour two years ago.

Hardcore fans, known as BTS' ARMY, shuffled into the stadium, ARMY bombs and other merch in hand. For those not in the know, ARMY bombs are orbs attached to sticks that light up along with the music during BTS concerts.

With a setlist of over 20 songs including "Fire," "Telepathy," "Dynamite" and "Permission to Dance," the show featured tight choreography, fiery pyrotechnics, confetti, balloons, a massive screen capturing all the action and heartfelt speeches from all seven BTS members — and USA TODAY viewed the whole thing.

The BTS seven-member group will hold four "Permission to Dance on Stage" concerts at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on 27-28 November and 1-2 December. The concerts BTS' first since 2019, when they wrapped up their last tour from North America to Europe to Asia. Since their 2013 debut, BTS has spearheaded a global K-Pop craze with catchy, upbeat music and dances, as well as lyrics and social campaigns aimed at empowering young people.

A week ago, the band has won the top prize of artist of the year at the American Music Awards and best pop song for their summer hit "Butter," among other awards.

As the pandemic spread last year, the band postponed and then called off what was meant to be its biggest international tour involving nearly 40 concerts. Instead, it has held online shows.
